God forbid anyone in Hollywood have an original idea. Rather than attempt to use an imagination, the fine folks at Fox have acquired the film rights to the series of children’s books, “The Chronicles of Darkness”.
Never heard of them? That’s because they haven’t actually come out yet... at least not in the United States. The first book hit U.K. stores in September and sold wildly, and is due to hit the States in February. The other five books in the six part “Chronicles” haven’t even been written yet, but author Michelle Paver is already being declared the new J.K. Rowling. Wait a minute, with two books left in the “Harry Potter” series, isn’t Rowling still the current Rowling?
This is how desperate Hollywood has gotten for another “Harry Potter” style success - they are hyping and purchasing books that haven’t even been released yet in the hopes that they’ll be big successes and they’ve attached their wagons to the right stars. Nevermind that there are centuries worth of literature out there waiting to be rediscovered. With “Harry Potter”, “The Lord of the Rings”, and “The Chronicles of Narnia” all tied up, Hollywood seems to be looking to the future rather than the past.
As always, fantasy staple Ian McKellen has to be involved somehow, although it might not be with the film adaptation. The former Gandalf and once-rumored Dumbledore recorded the audio book version of “Wolf Brother”, the first book in the “Chronicles” series.
