ChubbChubbs Are Lure For Daddy Day Camp
My god, Sony Pictures actually did something to make me want to see Daddy Day Camp. According to Coming Soon, the studio has paired the horrific looking sequel that couldn’t even draw Eddie Murphy and Jeff Garlin back, with the animated short “The ChubbChubbs Save X-Mas.” That’s right, the ChubbChubbs are back!
For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, “The ChubbChubbs” was a CG-animated short that wound up being placed in front of Men in Black II. For those of us who had to suffer through that terrible sequel, the ChubbChubbs were the best thing about the flick. Now it appears Sony has stamped its sign of a disastrous sequel on Daddy Day Camp as well.
According to Coming Soon, the story has the ChubbChubbs pinchhitting for Santa Claus as part of their search for a new home, where they accidentally scare the naughtiness out of a little brat and learn the real meaning of “home”. Think: Lilo & Stitch in five minutes… only (most likely) better.
Just to emphasize the draw the ChubbChubbs have, I told my wife there was going to be a second cartoon and her eyes immediately lit up. When I told her it was attached to the Cuba Gooding disaster her response was a meek, “Isn’t it going to be attached to anything else?”
The short won’t be in front of every print, so check your local listings to see if you’re one of the theaters that gets to see “The ChubbChubbs Save X-Mas”. Then ditch out of the theater as soon as the cartoon is over for your own sanity. This really is abuse using the cute little aliens as a means of attracting people to the theater, especially, if Sony is using the Chubbchubbs as a means to admit a movie sucks. Hopefully the short will be available via iTunes or another (legal) means of distribution online.
