For the last four years running a documentary has taken home the audience award at the Tribeca Film Festival, proving either that the audiences are all eggheads who only want true stories, or that the festival has chosen some truly stellar docs in past years. But this year the family dramedy City Island has taken home the Heineken Audience Award, leaping past heavy documentary competition like Racing Dreams, Soundtrack for a Revolution and, uh, Midgets vs. Mascots.

In a press release announcing the movie's win, Tribeca executive director Nancy Schafer said "This year we are delighted to have a smart, crowd-pleasing comedy with an outstanding ensemble cast, led by Andy Garcia and Julianna Margulies, take home The Heineken Audience Award for Raymond De Felitta’s City Island."

I still haven't seen City Island-- I know, I know, what have I been doing this whole time anyway?-- but will try to catch it to give a verdict.
