Clive Barker Quoths Poe To Kids
There’ve been rumors for quite awhile about a pending Edgar Allen Poe movie, but this is the first I’ve heard of one about his ghost. The Hollywood Reporter says horror master Clive Barker and Narnia makers Walden Media are teaming up to make a young adult thriller out of the spectral figure of the drug-addicted poet.
There isn’t any word on a name, but I’d be willing to bet it will somehow involved the quoting of a raven. Whatever they call it, the movie is to be about a group of teens who uncover the truth about what happened to Edgar Allen in the final two weeks of his life. I would have guessed shrooms and binge drinking, but since this is a teen movie maybe not. Unlocking Poe’s secret triggers a curse which sets the nightmares of Edgar Allen Poe free. The teens must escape.
Walden Media seems to get that Poe is usually better suited to an older crowd. But they’re confident. “By focusing on mood and atmosphere rather than blood and guts, Clive Barker brings a smart, literate take on the horror genre that will expose young audiences to its great literary underpinnings.” Literate and horror genre aren’t usually two words that go together. I’m interested.
