Cloud Atlas Concept Art Revealed
The Wachowski siblings' Cloud Atlas may end up being a complete unmitigated disaster, but at least one thing we can count on is that it will be a visual spectacle. The directing duo hasn't helmed a critically successful movie since 2003, but for all their lacking, Speed Racer and the two Matrix sequels were a marvel to look at, and their adaptation of David Mitchell's novel shouldn't be much different. We've previously told you that the movie will feature six different stories in six different timelines with the various members of the incredible cast - which includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent and many others - all playing multiple roles that transcend gender and race, but what exactly will that look like? Today we get a tiny clue.
Korean movie site Han Cinema (via Twitch) has posted two awesome pieces of concept art from the new movie. Check them out below and head over there to see them full-size.
While concept art isn't always 100% indicative of the final product (it's more or less the ideal version of what a filmmaker is trying to create), but if Cloud Atlas ends up looking anything like these pieces we could be in for a real treat. It's not really clear what is going on in the second photo - other than a boat arriving at a massive metropolis - but the first image does have a label that says it's the city of Seoul in 2144. Because I haven't read the book I'm short on details to describe what we're looking at, but perhaps one of our awesome commenters will pitch in.
In addition to the Wachowski's the film is also being co-directed and co-written by Tom Tykwer. While Cloud Atlas doesn't have an official release date, expect it sometime in the second half of next year.
