Cole Hauser Joins The Ensemble Cast of Wally Pfister's Transcendence
With all of the star power that is already behind former Christopher Nolan cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut Transcendence, it seems like all that would be left to cast would just be the extras. Especially after dropping some major coin on leading man Johnny Depp.
But the pocketbooks have opened once more for Cole Hauser, who The Hollywood Reporter reveals is in final negotiations to sign on for the film. After finding fame playing small roles in films like Dazed and Confused, he’s kept his career going strong, appearing in a lot of action movies and thrillers, most recently in the disappointing A Good Day to Die Hard. and the better-than-average Olympus Has Fallen. Keeping with that kind of character, Hauser will take on the role of a military officer in Transcendence who the trade says is "called upon to save the world." Maybe he’ll get the scientist role in his next film.
The film’s plotline is being kept firmly under wraps, but we know that it involves a group of scientists who are experimenting with the technological singularity, leading to a computer becoming intelligent and malevolent. Rebecca Hall will play Depp’s wife, and Paul Bettany will be playing a scientist, but we're still unclear about the roles set to be played by Cillian Murphy, Kate Mara, Clifton Collins Jr., and Morgan Freeman (though we assume the Freeman will either play God or someone’s wise old sage).
More details are sure to come before Transcendence reaches its new release date on April 18, 2014.
