Star Trek Beyond, the third movie in the franchise reboot, is right around the corner. The movie just released a new trailer which is a big improvement over the last one, and the franchise recently held a big celebration at the Star Trek Fan Event. Executive producer J.J. Abrams was in attendance, as well as director Justin Lin and some of the cast. Fans were treated to clips from the film as well as some other goodies, but probably the biggest treat was that all the fans were invited to the world premiere of Star Trek Beyond. And the twist is that the premiere won’t be held in a theater, but instead will be held outside at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
The Star Trek Beyond World Premiere will be an IMAX event held at San Diego Comic-Con on Wednesday, July 20, and will be the first ever outdoor IMAX premiere event. The premiere will feature appearances by Justin Lin as well as some of the cast and filmmakers of Star Trek Beyond. Fans in attendance will also be able to experience a live performance of Academy Award winning composer Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek film score, played by the San Diego Symphony Orchestra.
Justin Lin made the announcement at the Star Trek Fan Event, and everyone got an invitation to the red carpet premiere. But if you weren’t able to make it to the event and are bummed you didn't get the invite, don't worry; everyone at Comic-Con will have a chance to attend, and details about ticket distribution will be announced prior to the convention. It’s unclear if you have to attend Comic-Con to be able to score some tickets, but stay tuned for updates once they reveal the ticket info.
This is pretty awesome news for Star Trek and Comic-Con fans. I imagine the tickets will be pricey, but it all sounds really cool and studios don’t do stuff like this often. Major studios are already electing to not attend Comic-Con for the year, so this may become a once in lifetime event. If you’re already planning to head down to San Diego then it might be worth your while to go to a red-carpet premiere. Or you can just wait the two days before the film hits theaters everywhere.
