It's poetic justice that a movie titled Pride and Prejudice and Zombies would have to die and be resurrected a couple times before being able to get moving. In the year-plus that the project has existed, we've watched both David O. Russell and Mike White attach themselves at the helm before dropping it due to scheduling issues. So who's ready for round three?
Vulture is reporting from an unnamed source that Craig Gillespie, director of Lars and the Real Girl, has entered talks with Lionsgate to direct the adaptation of the Seth Grahame-Smith novel. The script, which was written by Grahame-Smith, has been the subject of much praise and, in addition to Russell and White, the project has previously captured the interest of Matt Reeves, Jonathan Demme, and the team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller. For those curious about Gillespie's horror credentials, his next film, a remake of the 1985 film Fright Night, will arrive in theaters this August.
While Gillespie is a more than capable director, the pessimist part of me is just waiting for him to sign on, start planning things out and then announce that he will be unavailable to make the film. As excited as I may be by the prospect of a period piece zombie movie, I'm patiently waiting for someone to take a 12 gauge shotgun and blow a hole through its skull.
