Critics Choice Awards Go Slumdog Wild
The Critics Choice Awards are the first big awards show of the season, unless you count the People's Choice Awards, and I sure don't. At tonight's ceremony Slumdog Millionaire held on to its frontrunner status, taking home Best Picture, Best Director for Danny Boyle, Best Writer for Simon Beaufoy and Best Composer for A.R. Rahman.
Dark Knight fans-- I know there's one or two of you out there-- take heart: The Bat won for Best Action Film, a category that may or may not have been created specifically for that movie. And Heath Ledger won another trophy for Best Supporting Actor, solidifying the huge lead he has over the rest of his competition.
The most interesting award of the night was a tie in the Best Actress category, between Doubt's Meryl Streep and Rachel Getting Married's Anne Hathaway. That's one of the most wide-open races at the moment, and a tie here only makes the competition more interesting going into the Golden Globes on Sunday.
Below is a full list of winners, cribbed gratefully from Awards Daily.
Best Comedy Movie: Tropic Thunder
Best Acting Ensemble: Milk
Best Young Actor/Actress: Dev Patel
