Cruz And Almodovar Team Up Again

Pedro Almodovar has announced that his next project will be Broken Hugs. No, I did not just run a Spanish article through an online translator and copy/paste the results. That’s actually the title, and no, I have absolutely no idea what it means. Since Almodovar never discusses the plot of his projects ahead of time, pretty much no one does.

Except perhaps, for Penelope Cruz. The Spanish star will be working with Almodovar for the fourth time on this project, and Almodovar promises The Hollywood Reporter that it will “delve into one of her little-known facets.” Contrary to what millions of men are wishing right now, he probably doesn’t mean her cleavage.

He did say, however that the film will involve some humor, is his longest film ever, and is about “crazy love.” HR also notes that it’s a film noir. All of those things together make this sound like the craziest movie ever made, but Almodovar has never been one to pick easy or conventional projects. His last movie with Cruz, Volver, won major critical accolades and an Oscar nomination for Cruz. It’s probably not too much to hope that the two are on a roll, and that Broken Hugs--whatever that means—will be as sexy and dynamic as anything else Almodovar has done.
