If War, Inc. ever shows up in theaters, it’s going to offend a lot of people. I can’t wait. Sadly, John Cusack’s satirical Iraq/Green Zone dark comedy has been stuck in release date limbo for a couple of months now, and shows no sign of settling down and playing in theaters any time soon. Not only can they not figure out when to release it, now it looks like they’re having trouble figuring out what to call it as well.
John Cusack recently revealed to MTV that the movie is undergoing a domestic name change. Apparently the War, Inc. moniker was only “for the foreign sales guys.” Should it ever show up here in America, he says it’ll get a name that’s less of a lightning rod. It’s being re-titled Brand Hauser, after the film’s main character.
Whenever they release it, and whatever they end up calling it, the movie sounds like it’ll be worth the wait. Cusack describes it as “a kind of a mercenary Samurai movie” and “a satiric, adult comic strip”. Or how about: “It’s very much like Strangelove set in the future, very dark and twisted.” If that sounds to brainy for you, it’s also a chase movie. He adds: “There’s a pretty amazing chase that gets sustained, kind of like The French Connection… Imagine that for 65 minutes! It’s pretty wild.”
