Da Vinci goes Hollywood
“The Best Week Ever” described The Da Vinci Code as the best selling book that nobody had read. I’m not sure that’s too far off the mark. I know tons of people who purchased the book, but only two or three who actually read it, and of those people only half really thought it was worth all the hype.
However, hype it had, and Hollywood shall leave no hype untainted. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, who have been working together since the early ‘80s, have purchased the option rights for Dan Brown’s novel, which Howard will direct.
But wait, there’s more. The dynamic duo are already in talks with Tom Hanks about the leading role of Professor Robert Langdon, the hero of the story. Apparently Hanks is being considered because he’s interesting and compelling to watch while he’s thinking. You can’t fault that logic, he did manage to hold an audience’s attention through Cast Away which also scored him an Oscar nomination. There is no word as to whether Wilson the volleyball will rejoin the Cast Away co-star, although we’re certain he’ll be present in Hanks’ thoughts.
So, for those of you who have The Da Vinci Code but haven’t read it yet, it can keep collecting dust on your bookshelf - a movie adaptation is right around the corner, allowing you to maintain the impression that you are smarter then you really are.
