When Daredevil And Jessica Jones Will Probably Show Up In Marvel Movies
The Avengers will face their greatest threat yet when they finally battle Thanos in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War Part I. However, they may not be the only ones joining the fray. It’s possible Marvel’s Netflix heroes, collectively known as the Defenders, will be teaming up alongside them in the second part of this epic story.
This new rumor comes from Bleeding Cool, which is reporting from unnamed sources that fans could see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War Part II, which will hit theaters on May 3, 2019. Although all these heroes exist in the same universe, this is the first indication that both teams of superheroes will eventually be working together. Assuming that the other Phase Three movies don’t have plans for them, this will be The Defenders’ cinematic debut in the MCU. It’s uncertain whether these appearances will be crucial to the plot or simply cameos. Either way, fans who enjoy their exploits on the streaming platform will no doubt be excited to see them on the big screen, should this prove to be true.
The Netflix leads are frequently referred to as "street-level heroes," meaning that instead of fighting fantastical threats on our world or off, they deal with more everyday crime. For instance, instead of taking down HYDRA goons or fighting a Chitauri warrior, the recently-introduced Daredevil used his fighting skills and heightened senses to battle Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. The Kingpin, a crime lord determined to make his city a "better place." So while the other heroes have their own unique powers and will even fight others with special abilities (like David Tennant’s Kilgrave a.k.a. The Purple Man), they aren’t dealing with world-ending threats. However, it sounds like even the smaller heroes will be helping out on a larger scale when the Mad Titan comes calling on our planet and eventually gains the power of the six Infinity Stones.
Season 1 of Daredevil premiered last Friday to near-universal acclaim, though it’s unclear whether it will return for a Season 2. Filming for A.K.A. Jessica Jones is currently underway, and it’s expected that the show could drop in the fall. The has been no word yet on when Luke Cage and Iron Fist will air, although Mike Colter will debut as Luke in A.K.A. Jessica Jones. All the heroes will eventually join forces in the Defenders miniseries on Netflix, and assuming that the Avengers: Infinity War rumor is legitimate (which admittedly is a big assumption), this likely means that we’ll see the group be formed before 2019. It’s safe to say that having the Avengers and Defenders teaming up together will be the biggest gathering of superheroes in live-action yet, which is sure to make any comic book fan weep tears of joy. Only thing they could really do to top it would be to put the Guardians of the Galaxy in there as well…
