Dark Shadows Up Next For Depp And Burton

Of all the weird projects Johnny Depp has had his name attached to in recent months, Dark Shadows was one I figured wouldn't get going for a while. An adaptation of a cult 1960s soap opera about vampires, werewolves, witches, ghosts, and much more paranormal stuff than ever fit into the plot of The Munsters, Dark Shadows isn't exactly the kind of bona-fide hit adaptation most studios go for.

But apparently what Johnny and Tim Burton want, they get, and the movie's producer Richard Zanuck says it's next up for the pair once they wrap up on Alice in Wonderland. "I'm doing, next summer, with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, Dark Shadows," Zanuck told Collider during interviews for Yes Man. Talking about Depp's attachment to the material, Zanuck said "He was obsessed as a young person. He used to sneak out of school to get home to turn on the television set."

I love the idea of this movie-- Depp as the vampire, Barnabas Collins, who is resurrected in order to search for his lost love. And Burton and Depp are an unbeatable team at this point, so there's no point in pretending not to look forward to what they'll do next. Plus, aren't we all in need of some non-teenage vampires at this point?
