Universal has a new movie idea: remaking their classic horror movie The Wolf Man. I can’t help but think someone misplaced a memo assigning this project a few years ago when the Universal Monsters were all the rage between The Mummy and Van Helsing. Remaking classic monster movies seems so two years ago.
They have the right idea so far on this project though. Variety is reporting Benicio Del Toro is in line to take the role originally played by Lon Chaney Jr. I’ve always thought of Del Toro as a bit of a wolfman and it turns out the actor collects memorabilia from the original film and has signed on as both actor and producer, alongside several others.
Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en) has been given script-writing duties for the remake, which is expected to have a summer 2008 release date.
