Dennis Quaid Says Gen. Hawk Won't See Much Action In G.I. Joe

Dennis Quaid made headlines when he took a role in the upcoming G.I. Joe movie, but as he told a group of journalists in New York today, it’s probably not this installment that matters most for the character. Acknowledging that there won’t be too many action scenes for his character in this movie, he said, “Hopefully there’s going to be two more. I don’t really have a lot to do here in the first one. I really kind of signed up for the future as well.

That’s a whole lot of confidence coming from a guy who hasn’t even shot his scenes for the movie yet, but then again, the last movie based on Hasbro toys was mega-hit Transformers. Quaid admitted that G.I. Joe would be “Straight-up, blow-up” action, but said he signed on for the silliness. “It just seems like it’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s a little bit like the cartoon show, and it’s a little bit like a modern action film, and it’s a little bit like James Bond, old-style. It’s somewhat tongue-in-cheek, [and has] great action.”

And stop your worrying, G.I. Joe fans who don’t want to see the older General Hawk cavorting around with some young lady. Even though Quaid says he’ll be spending a lot of onscreen time with supermodel Karolina Kurkova, who plays Cover Girl, romance is not part of the equation. ”I have no romances. My aide de camp is a Victoria’s Secret supermodel.” Ah Dennis, you sell yourself short! What model wouldn’t go for those rugged good looks?

BR> Quaid had plenty more to say about his role in the upcoming Vantage Point, as well as his recent ordeal when his twin babies were accidentally poisoned, but you’ll have to check in here later this week for all that information. Hey, that’s a command directly from General Hawk.
