I’ve just gotten a look at the trailer for the new Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, Marisa Tomei, and Albert Finney film, and it looks amazing. The movie is entitled Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead, and it follows the life of a cocaine addict (Hoffman) who needs some quick money. He enlists the help of his brother (Hawke), and then comes up with a scheme to rob his mom and pop’s mom and pop store. Naturally, everything goes horribly awry and both his mother and one of his burglar friends end up dead.

I have to be honest, this is one of my favorite casts ever put together for a film. I have had a monster crush on Marisa Tomei ever since I first saw My Cousin Vinny. I even named one of my hookahs ‘Mona Lisa Vito.’ Philip Seymour Hoffman is one of the best actors of our time, turning in great performances in Capote, Magnolia, and everything else he has ever done. You throw in Hercule Poirot, himself, Albert Finney, and a very underrated Ethan Hawke, and this seems like a must watch based on the cast alone. Thankfully, this also has a phenomenal story to go along with all that acting talent.

Word on the street is that the film is yet to secure an American distributer, but that’s pretty much just speculation at this point. I can’t really imagine many companies passing on this, but for now, the trailer is accompanied with French subtitles. Here’s your first look. Warning: This trailer is not safe for work!.
