DiCaprio Cracks Open Enron

It was only a matter of time. Someone has finally gotten around to making a movie out of the whole Enron thing. Of course there’s already been a documentary, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, but Warner Brothers is planning the first fictionalized version of the Enron story, called Conspiracy of Fools.

Variety says Leonardo DiCaprio will both produce and star in the film. It’s based on a book by the same name by New York Times reporter Kurt Echenwald, and Sheldon Turner (who wrote The Longest Yard remake) is turning that into a script.

Leo will play the new guy at the company, and the film will follow him as he exposes the layers of corporate greed and fake accounting which made the companies executives rich while driving Enron to bankruptcy. The idea is to turn the facts of Kurt’s book into a thriller, maybe they think they have a real-life version of The Firm on their hands.
