After bombing in a movie with Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz is reportedly considering going back to a sure thing by re-teaming with her Charlie’s Angels co-star Drew Barrymore in a remake of a Bette Davis movie. Diaz has told Sky News that she and Barrymore had “a ball together on Charlie’s Angels and have been looking for a script ever since.”
Apparently tired of waiting for someone to write something fresh and new, Diaz and Barrymore may reunite for Old Acquaintance, a 1943 soaper which starred Davis as a successful serious author and Miriam Hopkins as her long time friend who writes trashy novels. This isn’t the first time on the re-run cycle for this movie. It was also remade in 1981 as Rich and Famous, starring the early 80’s versions of Diaz and Barrymore, Jacqueline Bisset and Candice Bergen.
Diaz is in danger of becoming better known for her love life than her movies. Most of her recent films have been either critical or commercial failures (her voice work in the Shrek series excepted.) So maybe a 50 plus year old script already “updated” 25 years ago is what she needs to get the creative juices flowing again.
