Disney Picks Up Pet Robots
Walt Disney is going to the robots. Not only are they already promoting their next Pixar film, WALL-E, which is about a robot seeking his identity, but now they’ve picked up the rights to a forthcoming graphic novel about futuristic robots falling into unlikely hands.
The name of the project is “Pet Robots” and is based on a graphic novel by Scott Christian Sava, whose Blue Dream Studios has handled animation for Disney television (among others) in the past. The project will be produced by Chris Bender and JC Spink under their Benderspink label, which has projects going at most of the major studios right now.
Additional details on the movie are sparse. Will it be animated or live action? No answer, but with another animated robot movie coming soon, I can’t imagine this would be an animated tale, however. We do know Sava won’t be the one adapting the graphic novel for the screen, since it has been specifically announced that no writer has been hired yet. Don’t ask me why, but for some reason I see Tim Allen signing on to this… and I see it as the final nail in his career’s coffin.
