Today Geek Week spied an announcement made on Disney’s Facebook page] that the studio will change the name of their 2010 animated release from Rapunzel to Tangled. Producer Roy Conli explained the change in the announcement:
Directors of Tangled, Byron Howard & Nathan Greno, have also told us that Tangled will transport audiences “To a stunning CG fantasy world complete with the iconic tower, an evil witch, a gallant hero and, of course, the mysterious girl with the long golden tresses. Expect adventure, heart, humor, and hair, lots of hair.” Sounds cool to me.
I love everything Disney does and I am sure this will be as amazing as all of their other animated features. I think Walt would be proud to see where his company’s animation has gone (but sad with some of the other junk Disney has thrown at kids cough, Hannah Montana, cough)
The voiceover lineup for Tangled includes the likes of Mandy Moore as our lead heroine and Zachary Levi as a “dashing bandit” named Flynn Ryder. Rumored to also be a part of the cast are David Schwimmer, Matthew Gary Gubler, Kristin Chenoweth, Dan Fogler, and Grey DeLisle. Tangled is scheduled to hit theaters November 24 of this year.
Some of the new animation procedures utilized in this next film seem very cool. Even though Tangled will be done in 3D, according to Slashfilm it will look and feel more like a traditional hand-drawn Disney classic. Apparently the film uses a non-photorealistic rendering technique which will make the surface look like it is painted but still containing depth and dimensions. Can’t wait to check this one out just in time for the holidays.
