Is Disney Spending $300 Million On Tron?
We live in an era of bloated movie budgets, it's true. But is there really any studio crazy enough to sink $300 million into a sequel to a 27-year-old movie? Slashfilm picked up on a report in the Vancouver Sun, which claims that Disney has set aside $300 million to make the new Tron.
The article, which is about the multitude of post-production facilities in the Canadian province, writes "Vancouver post-production units are salivating at the prospects presented by the Disney remake of Tron, which carries a whopping $300 million budget and opportunities aplenty for effects and digital polish." Given that Tron is a movie that has not started filming yet, and will involve a huge amount of money spent in post, it's inconceivable that Disney actually has a set budget for this thing. And the notion of it costing $300 million, which is Spider-Man and Pirates of the Caribbean-type money? Just about impossible.
