Divergent Trailer Teases Knives, Trains, Zip-Lining And A Lot Of Action

As promised, Summit launched the worldwide trailer premiere for Divergent this morning, giving us a new look at the feature adaptation of Veronica Roth’s popular young adult series. The trailer shows us some exciting moments from the film, beginning with Tris preparing for her choosing ceremony, to her testing and on to her training. Among the stars glimpsed are Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Maggie Q, Kate Winslett and Ashley Judd.

Set in dystopian Chicago, where society is broken up into five factions which determine a person’s way of life, the story centers on Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley), a teen who must choose to either stay in her family’s faction, the selfless Abnegation, or switch to a different faction. To add even more pressure to her situation, she learns that she’s Divergent, which means she can never fit in to any one faction. It’s something she has to keep a secret as she begins her training.

The new trailer actually touches on most of those key point and more. In addition to seeing her prepare for her Choosing ceremony, we get a look at Tris as she begins a simulation, which puts her in a tank full of water and then demonstrates her ability to recognize that it’s not real. Spoiler alert: That's something non-Divergent’s can’t do. We also see Tris' introduction to Theo James’ Four, one of the Dauntless trainers, and the trailer glimpses a few more moments from their developing relationship. The video goes on to show us the knife-throwing scene, and later, Tris looking at the faction symbols tattooed on Four's back, while he can be heard saying he wants to be be brave, selfless, intelligent, honest and kind.

Finally, did anyone else hear "Come with me if you want to live" when Four says, "If you want to survive, follow me."

Now for a bit of gif fun. Here are a few great moments glimpsed in the trailer:

At present, she’s an Assistant Managing Editor who spends much of her time brainstorming and editing features, analyzing site data, working with writers and editors on content planning and the workflow, and (of course) continuing to obsess over the best movies and TV shows (those that already exist, and the many on the way).
