GI Joe has always had a massive cast of characters, and picking which ones make it into the movie and which don’t is probably a daunting task. We’ve had a lot of the film’s major characters confirmed already (check out our preview here), and now here’s another we may soon be able to add to the list.
The Latino Review says that Dominic West, star of TV’s The Wire, may end up being cast in the film as Destro. One of the bad guys from Cobra, Destro apparently has some sort of romantic entanglement with the character of Baroness, whom Sienna Miller has already been cast as. So I guess his addition makes sense.
My G.I. Joe knowledge is pretty limited though, so to fill in my blanks here’s what Destro’s Wiki has to say about him: “Destro’s key characteristics are his sense of honor, a calm demeanor, and love for Cobra’s second-in-command, the Baroness. As a businessman, Destro is cutthroat and unyielding. He uses his own troops, the Iron Grenadiers, and hires mercenaries to stir up conflict in dangerous regions, then sells weapons to those armies.” He sounds a little like Nic Cage in Lord of War, but his picture makes him look like Doctor Doom with a starch fetish.
UPDATE! The guys over at IESB have just added an update on this story. They say that their sources at Paramount are denying everything, and that Dominic West is not in consideration to play Destro. Well that rumor didn't last long, did it?
