Doom Trailer
Doom. Aaaah Doom. What can you say about it...?
Never since Paul Anderson has an action movie looked so unashamedly dumb. There's the rag-tag bunch of various kick-ass marine stereotypes not seen since the days of Predator. The Rock delivers flat one-liners straight from the Big Book Of Shane Black Cliches. Pulse rifles and set from Aliens has been hi-jacked and for that really shoddy look there's the cheap-looking CGI monsters that look crap next to other animatronic ones.
Now out is the final trailer for Doom which features possibly a videogame movie's biggest mis-step since selling Uwe Boll licences to them - the 20 minute POV shootout. That's right, director Andrej Bartsimpson strapped a camera to some character's heads and had them run around acting. You see this is clever because it emulates the game upon which the movie is based. Now stop me for a second if I'm wrong but, hasn't one of the biggest complaints with these kind of movies in the past been that it's too much like watching a buddy playing the coolest parts of a video game while you sit back and watch? Well now, in an amazing sidestep of popular critisism, the production team have actually gone out of their way to make a large section of the movie EXACTLY like watching your buddy playing the coolest parts of the video game.
Hats off guys. Hats off.
