Doomsday Will be A Major Villain In Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice
When the titular characters of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice aren’t trying to make each other bleed, they’ll be dealing with the movie’s true villain Lex Luthor. However, while Luthor is not lacking in intellect, physically he’s not a threat unless he’s wearing that green and purple exosuit. Fortunately, Superman (and possibly Batman) will likely have someone to match brawn with, as it’s being reported that the 2016 blockbuster’s other major villain will one of DC Comics’ top-killing machines: Doomsday.
Superhero news scooper Umberto Gonzalez, a.k.a. El Mayimbe, dropped by the most recent episode of the Shanlian On Batman podcast to make it "official" that Doomsday will be appearing in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Gonzalez compared the super villains’s role in the film to what Darth Vader served as in Star Wars. The Dark Lord of the Sith was the muscle to Grand Moff Tarkin, who Mayimbe considers to be the main villain since he was the brains behind the Death Star. Similarly, Doomsday will be Dawn of Justice’s muscle, while Lex Luthor will serve as the film’s main villain, which we’ve already known about for awhile.
Gonzalez also mentioned that from what he’s heard, the live-action Doomsday looks "incredible," which hopefully means he looks similar to his comic book counterpart, extruding bones and all. So if this is legitimate, the fight between Superman and this monstrosity may look like it sprung from the pages of a comic book. Doomsday was first rumored to appear in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice last year, and since then, reports of his role in the film have included a climactic battle with Superman and him somehow originating from General Zod’s corpse.
In the comics, Doomsday was the creation of an alien scientist who was attempting to create the perfect weapon. Forced to survive the cruel conditions on prehistoric Krypton, this creature slowly adapted to its surroundings and became more powerful, to the point where he was able to eventually kill his creator and escape the planet. After rampaging across the universe, Doomsday arrived on Earth and brutally fought Superman in the streets of Metropolis in the Death of Superman storyline. As the story’s title suggests, Doomsday was successful in murdering the Kryptonian, though he also perished during the battle because the two aliens were equally powerful.
As is the nature of superhero comics, both characters later returned to life, but Doomsday’s claim to fame still remains as being the main individual to (canonically) kill the Man of Steel. Given that Justice League Part One is coming out a year after Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, the outcome of the film’s battle probably won’t end the same way, but still, it’s sure to be an intense and ground-shaking showdown. Let’s just hope that this time around, Superman is able to maneuver his opponent to an unpopulated area, because the last thing Metropolis needs is another alien threat destroying everything in its path.
