Dwayne Johnson's San Andreas 2 Sounds Badass, Here's What We Know
If you pit Dwayne Johnson against massive earthquakes in a summer blockbuster, and crowds show up in droves, you can be damn sure that Hollywood will try and replicate the CGI magic at least on more time. So it shouldn’t surprise too many people that New Line and the San Andreas team are coming together for San Andreas 2, and that they are ramping up the action to reach a global scale.
In last summer’s San Andreas, The Rock played a rescue pilot named Raymond Gaines who’s forced into action when The Big One hits California, leaving his beautiful daughter (Alexandra Daddario) trapped in San Francisco. Together with his estranged wife (Carla Gugino), Ray helicopters through a series of disasters in order to bring his daughter home safely. Though the plot details on San Andreas 2 are being kept protected, THR goes on the record to say that the sequel likely will pit The Rock against the legendary Ring of Fire, a ring that "circles the Pacific Ocean with fault lines and volcanoes and, according to scientists, is home to about 90 percent of the worlds' earthquakes."
Dwayne Johnson versus Volcanoes. Where do I get my tickets?
It’s safe to assume that it you liked the first San Andreas, you’ll dig the sequel, as THR reports that most everyone will be returning, starting with director Brad Peyton. The filmmaker also helmed Journey 2: The Mysterious Island with Dwayne Johnson, so you know the action hero has faith and confidence in Peyton’s style. In addition, Gugino, Daddario and Paul Giamatti – who played a troubled seismologist in the first movie – are expected to return for the sequel alongside The Rock. Neil Widener and Gavin James have been hired to pen the screenplay for San Andreas 2, though neither of them were involved with the first movie, so expect the sequel to feel slightly different, for that reason.
The biggest challenge, now, might be finding time in Dwayne Johnson’s extremely busy schedule to film San Andreas 2. The actor, from what we can tell, is on the hook for a Baywatch movie (with Alexandra Daddario, coincidentally), as well as an announced Journey 3 movie. He has been teasing fans with a Rampage video game adaptation, and DC Films needs him to play Black Adam in a Shazam movie, at some point. He also remains a major component of the Fast & Furious films, of which there will be several. Where do you guys rank San Andreas 2 in the long line of "Movies We Can’t Wait To See Dwayne Johnson In"?
