I will admit to not knowing much about certain things. I don’t know how to change a carburetor or to poach an egg. I also don’t know how popular the R.L. Stine Goosebump books are these days. Sure, I know how popular they were, just not how much of that popularity still exists.
As I noted, back in May, there is a plan to turn Stine’s books into a feature film. I questioned the timing of this sort of movie as it probably would have made more sense in the 1990’s, when the books were more popular. Of course, no one listens to me when I say stuff like this, so the movie is moving forward. HR says that the producers have found their screenwriters.
The quality of the screenwriters actually makes me pause and lessen my mockery of this project. The duo negotiating to write the live action script are Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander. The pair has written several impressive movies including Ed Wood, Man on the Moon, and The People vs. Larry Flynt.. They also have some experience with movies aimed at young people (as Goosebumps would be) with Problem Child, Agent Cody Banks, and a remake of That Darn Cat. Ok, so the kid’s movies have all been pretty lousy, still, these guys wrote Ed Wood, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.
