Michael Eisner says the WGA strike is over. No one else is saying it yet, so I have to question whether or not the guy is just off his rocker, but Eisner tells CNBC “It's over… They made the deal, they shook hands on the deal. It's going on Saturday to the writers in general.”
Generally, I like to get these sort of things on paper. A hand shake isn’t exactly final, though it’s been sounding for the past week like this thing is all but over. We’ve been hearing since last weekend that a deal was done. You’d think the WGA would be in a hurry to announce it, but instead they’ve been prodding their writers to get back out on the picket lines. Meanwhile, Eisner insists that they’ve had a deal since last Friday, which if you’re one of the shlubs who’s been out there picketing all this week ought to kind of piss you off. Can everyone please get back to work now?
Eisner doesn’t reveal any of the details of the deal. He does seem to think the effect of it will be comparatively minor though. He says, “It’s not of no consequence but I don’t think it’s earth shattering.” Three months of striking for something that’s not very earth shattering? That doesn’t sound like a win for the Writer’s guild.
