Erich And Jon Hoeber Hired To Pen A Sequel To Red
Back during Comic Con, I attended the press conference for Red, during which the subject of a possible sequel came up. Responding to the question, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said that the future depended solely on how movie-goers responded to it. If the movie was well-received, there would be a possibility of seeing a Red 2; if not, we wouldn't. A few months later the movie left theaters with a $90 million domestic take, so guess what's coming?
Collider has learned that Jon and Erich Hoeber, who also wrote the first film, have been hired by Summit Entertainment to script a sequel to Red. While the project is not yet greetlit, if the studio likes what the Hoebers produce, then we might see Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and John Malkovich team up again in a few years. The Hoebers also wrote both Battleship and Man on a Ledge, both of which are due out next year.
In addition to being well received by audiences, Red also got a fairly positive response from critics, meaning that this is a pretty good win all around for the movie world. Now all we have to do is hope that they don't completely screw it up.
