Now available on VOD, and rolling out in theaters across the country this fall, For Ellen finds Little Miss Sunshine and There Will Be Blood star in the kind of role you might not expect from him: a rock star. Specifically he's playing Joby Taylor, who has gone AWOL from his band to finalize a divorce, only to get a nasty surprise about his future relationship with his six-year-old daughter, the Ellen of the title. In this exclusive clip that we're premiering below, you can see exactly what that surprise is, and how poorly Joby reacts when his lawyer (Jon Heder, completely unrecognizable from his Napoleon Dynamite days) gives him the news.

During a low period in his life, fading rock-star Joby Taylor (Paul Dano) agrees to sign divorce papers with his estranged wife in order to see money from the sale of their home. But as his lawyer (Jon Heder) explains in this scene, by signing the papers, Joby will forfeit all custody of his six-year-old daughter, Ellen. Unable to make headway in reversing the decision, Joby must negotiate a visit with his daughter to explore whether he is able to walk away from his child, and whether it might be too late for reconciliation.
