Exclusive Interview With William H. Macy
The premiere of Bart Got a Room was a far more crowded and star-studded, affair than the event I went to the night before. I mean, you’ve seen what a crowd of people does when William H. Macy shows up! For that reason I was kind of relegated to the sides of the press line (what I call the “kids table”) and didn’t get those paparazzi-quality photos you’re all expecting of me. But I did get literally a minute of face time with Mr. Macy, and with the help of the guys next to me from OnTheDrink.com, got some great answers out of a man who, immediately before he talked to us, related an anecdote to another reporter about smoking a doobie in Vermont. For real.
We’ve all seen images of you in the film wearing a Jheri curl. But is there a dramatic side of the character that we see?
This is Bill trusting a director. Brian [Hecker, the writer and director] says you’ve gotta have this wig, he says it’ll work. If it doesn’t work, keep your cameras handy because I’m going to beat him bloody. But it’s pretty funny—it’s funny on the face of it. You can do a lot worse when you’re doing a comedy than being a sight gag.
Really quick, what is your favorite drink?
Alcoholically speaking, I invented a drink. It’s called A Life Without Fear with a twist. It’s vodka lemonade with mint in it—you’ve got to keep the mint in it for 24 hours. Then you put a Meyer Lemon is—you know what a Meyer lemon is?
A really fancy lemon, right? Yeah. Other than that, I’d say an old-fashioned. I’m a bit of a bartender, I can make an old-fashioned.
In the gallery below, check out the photos I managed to take of the event, including Bart stars Steven Kaplan, Chad Jamian Williams, and Alia Shawkat, a.k.a. Maebe Fünke. There’s also a shot of Cheryl Hines walking away—I promise it’s her!
