It's been years since we've heard anything about Alex Proyas' Gods Of Egypt, and for a while we'd been wondering if it was even still happening. Well, it looks like we've got our answer, as the first posters for the film have dropped, and the results are... interesting. You're going to have to see these for yourself, as even our headline descriptions can't fully capture the gaudiness of what you're about to see. Here now is your first look at the glory that is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as the Egyptian god Horus.
If that's not the most sparkling image Summit Entertainment has committed to film since the finale of the Twilight series, then we don't know what is. You can thank Yahoo for this exclusive look at Coster-Waldau's flamboyant get up, which will probably look even more ridiculous when it's in motion. We'd show you the trailer to prove our point, but believe it or not – there's no trailer released for the film yet. Did we mention this movie's slated for a February release date? Despite Proyas' past history of directing projects like The Crow and Dark City, the signs for Gods Of Egypt are pointing towards this new film falling into the same category as the director's failed Nicolas Cage vehicle, Knowing.
As for the story of Gods Of Egypt, we've got even more details than previously revealed about what the film will be about.
With the survival of mankind hanging in the balance, an unexpected hero takes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love.
Our "unexpected hero" is Bek – a mortal thief played by Brenton Thwaites. His battle for humanity will require the assistance of the god Horus, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in the poster above. The villain of the piece is Set, the "merciless god of darkness." With a job title like that, you would expect the usurper of Egypt's throne to be a bit more intimidating than the goody-two-shoes you see depicted above. Thankfully, the costume design for Set, who is played by Gerard Butler, is much more toned down, as you'll see below.
If the marketing materials thus far are any indication, Gods Of Egypt is either the most undersold thrill ride of 2016, or it's going to be one of the most colorful flops of the earlier part of the year. You'll soon be able to see for yourself when the film releases on February 26, 2016.
