A Few Small Tidbits About G.I. Joe

News on the G.I. Joe front has been a little quiet since the movie started filming, which is what I blame for last week’s compilation of news, disguised as something new. Thankfully a little bit has trickled out, including a few new rumors.

Now that Stephen Sommers has identified Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character as Cobra Commander, everyone seems a little more willing to talk about his involvement. That includes the actor himself, who briefly talked with MTV Movies Blog about the character, assuring the press that he has a good voice (although whether that slithering lisp will be a part of it is unrevealed) and that he’s got a good mask. Yes, the word “good” is being thrown around far too much for us to get any take on the situation, especially since Gordon-Levitt surpassed “good” as an actor quite a while ago.

On the casting rumor side, Latino Review seems to think the G.I. Joe movie is about to add a couple more high profile names to its roster. Allegedly, Mummy star Brendan Frasier has already filmed a brief appearance as Gung Ho, a Marine gunnery sergeant. They are also reporting that an offer has been made for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to join as Shipwreck, a Navy SEAL (although originally he was a basic sailor). That would certainly be a coup for the movie, but I have to wonder how large the part is (or how large it would become) should Johnson sign on.
