Fifty Shades Of Grey Celebrates Ana's Birthday With A New Photo

Happy birthday, Anastasia. That's the message that comes along with the above preview photo, which gives us a new look at the anticipated feature adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. September 10 is the character's birthday, and to celebrate the occasion, we're treated to the site of Dakota Johnson looking pensive while she holds a pencil with the Grey Enterprises logo on it.

The photo was shared on the Fifty Shades of Grey Facebook page today. So, what exactly is happening here? It's possible we're looking at a new glimpse of Ana as she interviews Christian the first time she meets him. However, as you might recall when we saw the trailer, though she is holding some kind of writing utensil, Ana had her hair tied back in that scene...

Ana interview

Not only is her hair back in the interview scene, but the new photo has some green in the background, which suggests she's outside, or at the very least, at ground level somewhere and not up in Christian's office. So we might be able to rule out this being a new look at the interview.

To get a bit more spoilery with our theories -- if you haven't read the book, consider yourself warned -- perhaps we're seeing Ana as she ponders over Christian's "contract" or her own list of hard and soft limits. She does seem to be lost in thought there, and as we know from the book, Ana spends a lot of time thinking about Christians' wants, needs and actions. He's surely on her mind there... also her pencil.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, Fifty Shades of Grey is based on E.L. James' steamy novel, which centers on Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), a virginal college grad whose path crosses with troubled billionaire businessman Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). He soon introduces her to BSDM, and a complicated romance ensues.

With the Valentine's Day release of the adaptation still months away, we're left to wait for the next new trailer, or the occasional photo to drop. The first trailer proved to be massively popular online, which is no surprise, given the popularity of the book. Whether or not that interest translates to box office dollars remains to be seen.

If you haven't gotten enough of it, check out the trailer after the jump...
