As much as I hated The Final Destination, there was a period when I was actually looking forward to the next installment in the franchise. Unfortunately, that excitement ceased to exist when the title was changed from 5nal Destination to Final Destination 5 (because it looked like "Anal Destination," you see). Without that remarkably dumb title, it becomes just another movie in a series that wore out it's welcome after the second one. In spite of my protests, though, the movie does still exist and now has an official plot synopsis.

Warner Bros. has issued a press release about the film which confirms that it centers on an accident involving a suspension bridge, as reported back in June.

In this fifth installment, Death is just as omnipresent as ever, and is unleashed after one man’s premonition saves a group of coworkers from a terrifying suspension bridge collapse. But this group of unsuspecting souls was never supposed to survive, and, in a terrifying race against time, the ill-fated group frantically tries to discover a way to escape Death’s sinister agenda. The new victims of Death’s plan are part of a cast led by Emma Bell (Frozen, TV’s “The Walking Dead”) and Nick D’Agosto (Fired Up!, TV’s “Heroes”). The film is being shot on location in Vancouver, Canada. The second of the “Final Destination” films to be shot in 3-D, Final Destination 5 is being directed by Steve Quale, marking his major feature film directorial debut.

So it's basically the same movie as the first four, just with a different accident. No real surprises there. Let's just hope that Quale, who served as James Cameron's protege for years, can breathe some new life into the film.
