The buzz out of Comic Con, where Dredd 3D had its world premiere, is that the movie is actually not-half bad. I had the chance to talk with a number of people who were at the screening who told me that the movie is filled with hyper-stylized-but-cool violence and in his review our own Sean O'Connell went as far as to call Lena Headey's villainous performance as Ma-Ma "fantastic" and said that "Urban’s Dredd, and [Pete[ Travis’ forceful direction, [will] wash away the memories of Sylvester Stallone’s 1995 take on the character in a stream of blood and bullets." Fore those getting more excited for the movie, I'm sad to say that it won't be coming out until late September, but for today we have the movie's final poster.
While not exactly a breathtaking piece of art, the new one-sheet does pretty much its only job: pushing the hero front and center and making sure that people know that there will be plenty of explosions. It feels a bit too much like that one Dark Knight Rises poster, only with less fire and fewer buildings. Scope out the Dredd poster below and see it full size over on Yahoo!
Based on the comics by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, the film is set in a future where society has gone to hell and a group of elite police officers called "Judges" have the power to serve as judge, jury and executioner. The plot follows Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) as he teams up with a rookie named Casandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) to invade the homebase of a vicious ganglord named Ma-Ma (Headey) and stop the distribution of a reality-altering drug known as SLO-MO.
