I’m not exactly sure what New Line Cinema is up to with The Golden Compass. This weekend, they debuted the film in a series of one showing only sneak-screenings on Saturday, somewhat unusual for a blockbuster of this caliber, and now they’ve put the entire first five minutes up online, available to watch uninterrupted. At the rate things are going, everyone interested in the movie will have already seen it by the time it officially opens this Friday. Is this panic on the part of New Line, an attempt to appease ineffectually protesting Christian groups, or some sort of genius marketing plan that’s going to get buts in seats?
