First Glimpse Of Philip Seymour Hoffman And Rachel McAdams In A Most Wanted Man
The last John le Carre novel brought to the big screen was 2011’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy , which was unsurprisingly more successful with the critics than the box office, not that it was a financial failure. The next one up, A Most Wanted Man, is currently in post-production, and the first peek into the film has been released.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed the first image from A Most Wanted Man, and neither Philip Seymour Hoffman or Rachel McAdams look particularly happy to be a part of whatever is going on. But then, there never really is much happiness going on in espionage thrillers, so it’s tonally effective. The three main things we can tell from the cold, bluish image is that Hoffman is smoking, he isn’t blind, and that McAdams is blonde. See what other fun facts you can glean from the image below.
Admittedly, there isn’t much to go on, but the U.S. is one of the only countries where the film rights still haven't been picked up, so we're lucky to have this. But it's only a matter of time before that changes. It’s got a “war on terror” in it, so it’s right up our alley.
Hoffman plays the chief of a covert German spy unit investigating whether a foreign man who suddenly arrives in Hamburg, German is the tortured heir to a fortune that he says he is, or something more sinister. McAdams plays a determined lawyer bent on protecting his right.
Le Carre’s former experience with British Intelligence keeps his novels grounded in realism, and music video director-turned-feature director Anton Corbijn hopefully kept the source material close at hand when creating A Most Wanted Man.
