First Poster For Killing Them Softly Goes Minimalist
While they are a bit overdone, there is something inherently fun about minimalist posters. It's an interesting idea to try and take even the most complex pieces of work and simplify them into basic images that tell you everything that you need to know about them or capture the one element that everyone on the planet will recognize. It's a bit strange to reverse engineer that process, by promoting a movie that nobody has seen using a minimalist design, but the folks over at The Weinstein Company have done a good job with it in the first teaser poster for Andrew Dominik's Killing Them Softly, formerly known asCogan's Trade.
Posted over at Moviefone, the artwork is nothing more than a pair of aviator sunglasses with the American flag in the lenses and a revolver, but you immediately get the sense of what the movie is about. Check out the poser below and head over to the source to see it full size.
Based on the novel by George V. Higgins, the movie is about a professional enforcer named Jackie Gogan (Brad Pitt) who his hired by the mob to find out who is responsible for robbing a local poker game. The film also stars Richard Jenkins, Scoot McNairy, James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta, Sam Shepard, and Ben Mendelsohn. Killing Them Softly will be making its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this week, but for those not in France the movie will be opening later this year (September 21st in the US).
