First Trailer For Brandon Cronenberg's Antiviral Is Not For The Faint Of Heart
It would seem that talent for creepy and effective body horror comes in your genes. First David Cronenberg horrified us with titles like The Fly, Videodrome, Scanners and eXistenZ and now his son, Brandon Cronenberg, is getting in on the genre with his new film Antiviral. Check out the first trailer below!
Antiviral is the first feature film from the young Cronenberg (he both directed the film and wrote the script) and stars Caleb Landry Jones, Sarah Gadon (a David Cronenberg favorite, who previously had roles in movies like A Dangerous Method and Cosmopolis), Malcolm McDowell and Douglas Smith. The science-fiction horror is set in a future where celebrity worship has gotten so far out of control that people actually willingly get infected with the viruses and diseases of their favorite stars. Jones plays a young man named Syd March who accidentaly gets infected with the disease that killed Hannah Geist (Gadon). In order to save his own life he must find out the answer to her death. And that becomes less and less simple as the symptoms begin to kick in...
In addition to premiering the trailer, Yahoo! has also gotten their hands on the first one-sheet from the movie, which is basically one of the more memorable shots you saw in the trailer above. I do really like the creepiness of the tagline, What if you could feel like they do... We can help," though. The poster is below and you can see it full size over at the source.
Anitviral made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival this spring and will have its North America premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September. Look for it in a theater near you on October 12th.
