Ford Shows McAdams His Morning Glory
Hollywood Homicide. Firewall. K19. Even with the best will in the world Indy IV wasn't the blistering return we might've expected. Harrison Ford's career has been a lost in the wilderness of late, relegated to action movies worthy of Eddie Murphy circa 1996. Part of me wishes Han Solo would just fly off in to hyperspace to stay at home with his anorexic wife to spend his days smoking pot and rescuing stranded hillwalkers in his chopper because he clearly loves these things more than acting these days judging by his choice of projects.
According to Variety the one time A-lister has now just signed on to star in the perhaps predictably smuttily named Morning Glory for Paramount. He will play one of two feuding morning TV show anchors, while Head-Honcho-Crush Rachel McAdams is in negotiation as the hotshot new producer tasked with saving the failing show from it's warring hosts. The second anchor has still to be cast but an announcement is expected soon.
The silver lining is that J.J. Abrams Bad Robot Pictures is producing and Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) is writing. Add to the mix the director of Notting Hill and despite the juvenile title you have some potential there. Plus maybe this is a good move for Ford. He's far too old to pull off the action star he used to be so why not reinvent yourself as a grouchy old man character? Hey, it worked for Sean Connery, Clint Eastwood and countless others and he was halfway there in the new Indy movie anyhow. Stop cracking your whip and start waving your cane Harrison, you know it makes sense!
