Will Forte Promises 'We Are Going To Make MacGruber 2 For Sure'
For years we were professional skeptics around here, pouring cold water on all the fans who dreamed of somehow seeing crazy stuff like an Arrested Development movie, or Anchorman 2 or a Veronica Mars movie. They were all crazy pipe dreams… right?
Now, of course, we look like big idiots, which is why I will officially be nothing but excited about the latest promise that we can expect a MacGruber sequel. Ever since the beloved but under seen comedy came out fans have hoped somewhat in vein for a sequel, and star Will Forte and director Jorma Taccone have occasionally stoked our hopes<, suggesting they could put it together on a tiny budget. Now Forte tells EW once again that, yes, they are committed-- and they totally had the Kickstarter idea before Veronica Mars did:
The last time Forte crushed our dreams about the sequel, he essentially said he'd love to make it happen, but no one on their right mind would help them fund it. Now it seems like they might have found someone crazy enough to do that, or at least a way to make another action parody on a tiny budget. Given that the original MacGruber only cost $10 million to make, and the Veronica Mars Kickstarter has made nearly half that in a month, could that be where Forte is headed? Right now I'm betting on something more along the lines of a web series or even a few short films… but if there's any MacGruber coming back at all, I'll be a happy fan.
