Four Join Weir For The Way Back
Looks like Master and Commander director Peter Weir is sticking with the serious side of film making. After a hiatus of five years, the director is back with a movie about some soldiers escaping a Siberian labor cam, and Colin Farrell, Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess and Saoirse Ronan all have faith that the director still has it.
The film is called The Way Back and will follow the tribulations of three soldiers, played by Farrell, Harris and Sturgess. According to Variety, the cast will cross paths with a Russian, played by Ronan. Farrell will play a tattooed bad boy (what a stretch) who happens to be Russian, Harris will play an American while Sturgess plays a Polish prisoner.
The screenplay was written by Weir but is based on a memoir by Slavomir Rawicz. They will start filming in Bulgaria in March. Three out of four cast members have been nominated for either a Golden Globe or an Oscar at some point, and the director almost won the big O for Master and Commander. This film is shaping out to sound suspiciously like Oscar bait.
