Last year's horror movie The Fourth Kind wasn't received too kindly by anyone, much less our own Josh, who wrote that most of the movie is "really boring padding." Still, he gave the faux-documentary gambit credit for being original, and clearly the film's director Olatunde Osunsanmi has at least a few more ideas up his sleeve-- including one that takes him to the moon.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. and Akiva Goldsman's Weed Road have picked up Osunsanmi's spec script Dark Moon for "high six figures," and Osunsanmi is set to direct as well. The story jumps off from the idea that NASA has been conducting black ops missions to the moon to explore "previously classified discoveries and its unintended and disturbing consequences." Like The Fourth Kind the movie will take something of a documentary conceit, using found footage to build its argument alongside, presumably, some sort of narrative. The Fourth Kind got slammed in many circles for presenting itself as some kind of true story, but it's hard to imagine them pulling the wool over the public's eye with something so implausible as secret moon missions. Then again, plenty of us still don't believe we ever went to the moon to begin with. Forget what I said-- they could totally get a good conspiracy theory on their hands with this.
Osunsanmi is also attached to direct The Commuter for Gold Circle FIlms, about a man's "deadly commute from work in New York City." I'll inevitably be thinking about that as I board the subway toward Manhattan later this afternoon, so thanks a lot Olatunde.
