Frances McDormand is definitely an actress who picks and chooses what she wants to be part of, and with the exception of an Aeon Flux here or there, she's pretty good at making her choices. Coming up next is what looks like another safe bet: Production Weekly reports that she'll be joining Sean Penn in This Must Be The Place, which will be the English-language debut of Il Divo director Paolo Sorrentino.

Penn is already on board to play the lead character, a burnt-out rock star who set off on a hunt for the ex-Nazi who executed his father, possibly out of boredom or possibly an actual desire for revenge. McDormand's role isn't explained, though hopefully Sorrentino knows her skills would be wasted playing a straightforward supportive wife character. I think my hope that she'll play the ex-Nazi will probably not be taken seriously.
