Frank Grillo Testing For A Part In Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Frank Grillo, who has had an impressive 2012, appearing in movies such as The Grey and End of Watch, may be the latest actor to join the ranks of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There is now a rumor floating around that Grillo may be up for a crucial role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
The rumor mill started up earlier today when the actor took to his Twitter account to write the following:
That message, of course, put fans in a tizzy as the actor was then bombarded with questions about his possible involvement in the highly anticipated sequel. After retweeting a report by Comic Book Movie, Grillo sent out another message about his meeting, saying
And so here's where things get really interesting. You see the last hashtag on that message that reads "#Bones"? Well, CBM has discovered a few Tweets from radio show host Matthew Aaron saying, "Once again, just wanted to tell you and I'll be talking about it all week... Frank Grillo has tested for Crossbone in the new Marvel movies."
If you couldn't already tell by the name, Crossbones is one of the key villains in Captain America's rogues gallery. Created in 1989, the character began as a young gang member in New York who was forced to flee to a school for criminals after brutalizing a young girl and killing one of her brothers. After three years of training he became an instructor at the school and then became a mercenary who aligned with Albert Malik, a KGB agent who assumed the identity of the Red Skull. It's worth noting that the character wasn't prominently featured in the original Winter Soldier storyline from the comics.
Joe and Anthony Russo will be directing the comic book movie, which will feature the return of Chris Evans as Captain America, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Solider, as well as introduce Anthony Mackie as The Falcon. The film will be released on April 4, 2014.
Obviously just because Grillo tested for the part doesn't mean he'll get it, but how do you feel about that possible casting? If not Grillo, who would you like to see play Crossbones? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
