Frasier Might Continue Franchise
The continuation of The Mummy franchise has been a hot topic over the past few weeks, with the rumor that Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen is stepping in to take over Stephen Sommers’s franchise. The plot has been said to center around the little brat who made his debut in The Mummy Returns, Alex – thankfully a little more grown up (seriously – that kid was more annoying than Episode I’s Anakin). But what about Alex’s mom and dad, originally played by Rachel Weisz (who has gone on to win an Academy Award) and Brendan Frasier (who has not)?
Presumably if Alex is grown up now, Rick and Evelyn would be too old to gallivant around on adventures, but talk from Brendan Frasier’s camp might prove otherwise. Apprently Frasier told Sci-Fi Wire that he’s interested in pursuing Imotep a third time and is just waiting on a script – assuming the studio still wants him.
This news follows an interview from the same source with some of the movie’s screenwriters who also stated they were hoping to get Frasier and Weisz back for the third chapter, despite aging their characters’ son by quite a few years. Obviously Frasier would be interested, but I can’t imagine Weisz would come back. Running from CG monsters was all well and good before getting a golden statue but will she do it for anyone other than her husband after winning it?
UPDATE: It's been pointed out to me that Weisz went on record months ago as being interested in the next Mummy movie. So now I have to ask - if both Weisz and Frasier are interested... why are we talking about a movie about the son?
