Fried Worms Trailer

Walden Media is running 50/50 on their films so far. Nobody can argue that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe was a major hit for the company, however this year’s Hoot was considerably less grand. Holes was a mediocre success, however Around the World in 80 Days was a pretty big stinker. That’s not keeping them from continuing their work of adapting children’s’ books for the big screen however, with over a dozen films slated through 2007 – more than they have produced up until now.

Next up on Walden Media’s slate is How to Eat Fried Worms, a personal favorite of mine, although I have to admit it’s been years since I’ve read the book. I remember being introduced to the story through an animated version of the tale on “CBS Storybreak” back in the late ‘80s. Now the movie is coming out and the first trailer has been released.

As I said, it’s been years since I’ve read the book, but somehow the trailer feels completely and totally wrong to me. It’s obvious they’ve made changes to the story but, if the trailer is any indication, those changes are massive. It’s not just a matter of updating the setting of the story for today’s “screenager” audience, but the whole reason for the bet appears altered as well. I’m hoping it’s just the way the trailer plays out and we’ll see something more true to the story once the movie hits theatres August 25th.
