Phedon Papamichael is a damn fine cinematographer. Well, I’m not sure that’s exactly true, but he has been the cinematographer of some damn fine movies. He’s shot Walk the Line, The Pursuit of Happyness, Sideways, and Identity. Because of that, we’ll forgive him for Patch Adams. His director credits are a lot slimmerbut they will be increased by one when he finishes with the thirller From Within, set to begin filming in August.
From Within probably won’t increase Papmichael’s standing in the directorial community. It’s a low budget thriller written by Brad Keene. Keene previously wrote The Gravedancers which starred Dominic Purcell (“Prison Break”) and you probably never saw. It tells the story of a young girl who is caught between her religious family and a desire to experience the outside world. This desire is increased as residents of her town begin to die suspiciously.
The biggest name in the cast is Adam Goldberg who has one of those supremely recognizable faces despite not being a lead in anything that ever did well. A real supporting actor to the nth degree. The other leads are mostly television stalwarts including Thomas Dekker, who played the cheerleader’s gay friend on “Heroes,” Jake Weber from “Medium,” and Elizabeth Rice. I can’t see this movie making much of a splash but European equity funds have to waste their investment dollars on something
